Description

Size: 5ft 0in x 2ft 7in (152 x 78cm).
Antique Tekke or Saryk Turkmen chuval face with nine large 'Salor' turreted guls.
Circa 1880.
Chuval are storage bags used by the Turkmen nomads for the storage of personal items inside the yurt and also for the transport of goods on the backs of camels or horses. They were usually woven in pairs.
A good chuval face that is well drawn with nine 'Salor' guls and 'chuval' secondary guls. The extensive use of cochineal dye gives the superb ground colour.
Excellent condition with even wear and good pile, the top outer border has been reduced at some time in the chuvals history. (Reflected in the price).
