Size: 4ft 1in x 3ft 1in (125 x 94cm).
Old Afghan village prayer rug of unusual design, possibly by the Kizil Ayak Turkmen.
Circa 1920.
The rug is of unusual design with a central column leading to the mihrab. The rug has a simple colour palette, with an abrashed madder red field with small highlights in yellow and ivory. It is also interesting to note that there is no border at the lower end, this is most unusual in prayer rugs but is quite deliberate and clearly had a meaning to the weaver.
The rug is in good condition with very slight wear and good pile.
Both ends retain the original end finishes, the lower end shows slight signs of wear.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use and is suitable for wall hanging.
Stock Number: MS-097.
