Size: 8ft 2in x 6ft 7in (250 x 200cm).
An exceptional old Afghan Purdah rug from the village of Chakesh which is North of Aq Chah, on the plain of Afghan Turkestan.
Circa 1920.
Chakesh rugs are considered to be the finest quality from this region.
This superb example is very similar to the one published by R.D.Parsons in his book ‘The Carpets of Afghanistan’. See colour plate 38. Note the design in the elem, which is unique, probably depicting Yurts.
This example is very well made with excellent glossy wool; the red ground is a very pleasing colour. The inner curl leaf border is also of interest. An excellent example of an Afghan Purdah (door hanging).
The rug is in excellent condition with very slight wear and good full pile, note the original end finishes at both ends.
The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display. The rug is suitable for very heavy domestic use.
